1 Timothy 3:10-17

All Scripture Is Breathed Out by God

10 You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, 11 my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra—which persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. 12 Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom  you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.

Not long ago a team of researchers produced a fascinating report entitled “The Role of Trust and Interaction in GPS Related Accidents.” The study identified the “human factors” in some well-publicized shipwrecks and plane crashes. One of the findings was that sailors and pilots had come to rely on GPS systems so much that their traditional navigations skills and practices had eroded. “Operators are not taking the same degree of care in planning their intended route,” the report concluded, “in the belief that they can always rely on GPS support to get them out of any eventual problem.”

“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. (James 4:8)”

If you find that God is far away, and during this current crisis many of you may feel God is far away, you can be certain that you are the one off course – not Him. Technology has improved many facets of life, but with it comes the danger that you will unwittingly allow important disciplines to erode.

“There’s an app for that,” has become a modern mantra, but it isn’t always true. There is no substitute for time spent in the Word of God and time spent in His presence daily. That’s how you draw near to God…and draw others in your community to Him as you pray for those that may not know Him.
