1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

I’m sure most of you have heard the saying, “nothing is certain except death and taxes.” Well, I think one more thing could be added to death and taxes, and that is temptation.

We are all tempted, and I believe if you look closely at those temptation none of them are truly unique. What we all endure is pretty common to mankind. You can count on the fact that others before you have found strength in Jesus Christ to overcome the very same temptations you are experiencing. You also can be victorious, but only in the strength of Jesus, not in your own strength. We fight temptation with the power of Christ. When Satan come knocking at the door of your heart…just send Jesus to answer the door, and Satan will say, “Oh, sorry I must have the wrong house.”

God is faithful, and in this passage, He has promised to not let us be tempted beyond what we can bear. Whether it come through the world, the flesh, or Satan God’s promises to limit that temptation to not exceed our ability to resist it if we rely on His strength, not on our own.

God not only promises to limit our temptation, but also to provide us a way out. Because we have freewill God will never force us to use the way out, but He will provide a way out and we can choose to use it or not.

A good comparison would be if you were lost in the woods, and you could see nothing but thick underbrush and trees. You have walked and walked and crawled through the brush, but it all looks the same. Then you crawl under some brush and there before your eyes is a clear path leading straight out of the forest. That’s God’s way out.

There was a little boy in a store by the candy display and he was staring at that candy intensely. The store clerk was watching him and was certain the boy was planning to take some candy without paying. Finally, the clerk asked the boy, “Looks like you’re trying to take some candy.” The boy answered, “Mister I’m trying not to take it.”

The boy was struggling to bear that temptation in Christ, you can bear your temptation in the same way.
