Mark Lesson 18 Study Questions

1.    David himself calls Him ‘Lord’; how is He then his Son? Jesus is not only the Son of David but also the _____ of David. As Revelation 22:16 says, He is both the root and offspring of David. With this question Jesus challenged the religious leaders, asking them “do you understand this _______ about the Messiah?”

2.    Beware of the scribes, because they loved the best seats in the synagogue and at feasts, showing they demanded the perks of _______ and ___________.

3.    Saw how the people put money into the treasury: Jesus looks at us when we give and He notices how we give. As Jesus looks, He is more interested in ____ we give than in how ______ we give.

4.    Two mites: The wonderful thing about this widow’s giving was that she had two mites and gave them _______. She might have kept one coin for herself, and no one would blame her if she did. Instead, she gave with staggering ____________.

5.    The widow’s gift and Jesus’ comment on it also shows us that the value of a gift is determined by what it ______ the giver. This is what made the widow’s gift so __________. David refused to give God that which cost me nothing (2 Samuel 24:24).

6.    As great as the temple was, Jesus never hesitated to claim that He was greater than the temple (Matthew 12:6). For many Jews of that day, the temple had become an ____ – it subtly began to mean more to the people than God Himself meant. The temple was a good thing, but good things can become the _______ idols.

7.    The literal fulfillment of this prophecy (destruction of the Temple) establishes the _____ for the rest of the prophecies in the chapter. We should expect a literal ________ for these other prophecies also.

8.    Tell us, when will these things be? As Jesus sat with His disciples on the Mount of Olives, they could see the majestic structure of the temple. With this view, the first question in the mind of the disciples was about the ___________ of the temple. Jesus said it would be destroyed, and they wanted to know ______.

9.    Take heed that no one deceives you: Jesus warns of the danger of _____ messiahs who come in His name. They will pretend to be Jesus or representatives of Jesus, but they will not be true _____________ of Jesus.

10.    The gospel must first be preached to all the nations: Jesus also promised that before the end the _______ must go out to the whole world. The presence of persecution does not relieve the ________ of this responsibility.
