Exodus 20:12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
This familiar command was the fifth in God's Ten Commandments, or the Law of God, and has never been questioned. It was also commanded by Christ in Matthew 19:19 "honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself.”
This all indicates that God considers the honoring of parents by their children to be of great significance. Since the father has been charged with the primary spiritual responsibility for his family, it is of supreme importance that fathers lead their children properly and the children follow that lead with all due respect and diligence. God blessed Abraham as “the father of us all” (Romans 4:16) because He could say concerning Abraham: “For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.” (Genesis 18:19).
Being a father in today's world is difficult to say the least, but what about the children that don't have an earthly father in their lives to steer them and guide them through life's challenges and guide them spiritually. Isaiah 1:17 "Learn to do right; seek justice.
defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.
God is calling us through the prophet Isaiah to "take up the cause of the fatherless". There plenty of single moms out, whether widows or divorced, that deperately need help with a son between the ages of 7-17. There are plenty of godly men out there that can step-up and answer God's call to take up thi cause.
We are launching a new ministry at the Chapel to address this issue head-on, Fathers in the Field. We are looking for godly men in our church who will defend the cause of the fatherless and see to it that father's day will never again be just another day to fatherless boys in our community.
In launching this ministry we first need a leadership team to oversee this ministry. This team will consist of both men and women, so please pray about it and consider if this is something God is putting on your heart. If you are interested in more information, please contact Pastor Robert Read at (903)907-9333.
God Bless,
