2 Corinthians 5:21: God made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.
Some years ago, following an extremely traumatic period in my life, I was struggling with God and what I believed. In fact at that time, I was angry with God. I could not accept what had happened and blamed God for my despair. I was studying the Bible intensely trying to find answers.
I awoke from a vivid dream in the middle of the night one night sweating profusely and in tears. In my dream I was at the foot of the cross of Christ his head was down, apparently already dead. He was bleeding and it was dripping down off his feet and hitting the ground in front of my face. I was looking up at him and tears were streaming down my face. Prior to the dream my thoughts were always why have you done this to me God? In my dream as I looked up at Him, my thoughts were Lord why have you done this for me?
It was just a short time later I heard a song “Before the Throne of God” and the second stanza of that song brought that dream rushing back into my mind, and me asking why, why have you done this for me? I am nothing but an unworthy miserable sinner, and you did this for me. That second stanza goes like this: “When Satan tempts me to despair, and tells me of the guilt within, upward I look and see Him there. Who made an end to all my sin. Because the sinless Savior died, my sinful soul is counted free, for God the just is satisfied. To look on Him and pardon me; to look on Him and pardon me.”
We sang this song in worship at the Chapel March 1, 2026, and as we sang I choked back the tears as the image of that dream flooded my mind again. Even as I write this tears are difficult to hold back. Oh, what an awesome savior we have! To look on Him and pardon me, to look on Him and pardon me!
