Lamentations 3:15-20 (ESV)

15 He has filled me with bitterness;
     he has sated me with wormwood.

16 He has made my teeth grind on gravel,
and made me cower in ashes;
17 my soul is bereft of peace;
I have forgotten what happiness is;
18 so I say, “My endurance has perished;
     so has my hope from the Lord.”

19 Remember my affliction and my wanderings,
the wormwood and the gall!
20 My soul continually remembers it
and is bowed down within me.

Have you ever felt like this? Maybe you are plagued with chronic illnesses, or in serious financial trouble, and can’t see your way out. Maybe you have lost someone near and dear to you. For whatever reason you feel like those verses above fit you to a “T”.

I know I have been there and felt like that. I felt the Lord had abandoned me or was maybe punishing me. At any rate I was angry with the Lord to the point I ranted and raved at Him.

As verse 18 says, “My endurance has perished; so has my hope from the Lord.” That my friends is a dark and lonely place to be, and if that’s where you are now I encourage you to read on:

21 But this I call to mind,
     and therefore I have hope:

22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
     his mercies never come to an end;

23 they are new every morning;
     great is your faithfulness.

God’s promises are true and He is faithful. He never promised that we would be without trouble in this life, but He did promise to never leave us or forsake us. Just remain true to Him and He will remain true to you. He loved you so much that He sent His Son to die so that you may have eternal life!

His mercies are new every morning, and that’s a promise you can depend on.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your tender mercies and your great love for man. I love you Lord, and I’m leaning on you to bring me through these difficult times. I look forward to the day of your return and You making all things new again, in Jesus name amen.
